Mary and Judas are two possibilities open to any follower of Christ. Even after having spent three long years with the Galilean Master, Judas fails to recognize the beauty of his discipleship. He is a man of regrets. There are only bitter regrets and lamentations left in him. He counts all that is spent for Christ as a loss (to use his own terminology "a waste") and that is the reason why he was quick to find fault with Mary who spent more than 300 denaro to buy the coastly perfume to anoint the feet of Jesus (and John, the evangelist reminds us that this was not a small sum of money, probably the wage of a normal worker of a whole year). Judas sees it as a sheer waste. But Mary has a single worry. All that is spent is still not sufficient for her. She says to herself: "If I had little more, I could have spent even that too..."
O my God, even in my own life of consecration, not rare are the moments when the Judas in me confronts the Marian part with several questions. Why at all such a 'waste'? your life, your dreams, your visions, your colours, your desires for a family, for a partner, for a sibling and so on and so forth. But the Mary in me will remind me, all that is spent for Christ will never go waste and He will never allow it to go waste.
